Code of conduct
Bedford Tech works because people are decent to each other. This page is the deal we all sign up to: how we treat each other, what is not okay, and what happens when someone crosses the line.
Be kind and honest
Treat other members the way you would treat a friend in the room. Assume good intent, disagree politely, and keep criticism about ideas, not people. A community of makers and friends only stays that way if we all put a little in.
No harassment or spam
Harassment, discrimination, and unwanted advances have no place here, online or at events. Neither does spam: this is a community, not a lead list. If you would not say it to someone's face in front of the room, do not post it.
Where this applies
This code covers everywhere Bedford Tech happens: the site, our events, the community chat, direct messages between members, and any time you are representing or interacting with the community. Being in a private message does not make it a free-for-all.
What is not okay
To be clear about the line, these are out of bounds:
- Harassment, bullying, or discrimination of any kind.
- Hate speech, slurs, threats, or intimidation.
- Sharing someone's private information without their consent (doxxing).
- Sexual content, or unwanted sexual attention or advances.
- Spam, scams, or repeated unsolicited self-promotion.
- Impersonating another person or organisation.
- Anything illegal, or content that encourages it.
Reporting a problem
If something here is not right, tell us. Use the report button on a post or on a member's profile, or message an organiser directly. Reports are handled discreetly, and you do not need to be certain before you flag something: raising it is always welcome.
What happens next
We look into every report. Depending on what happened, the outcome might be a quiet word, removing the content, a temporary suspension, or removal from the community. We will always try a conversation first where we can, but member safety comes ahead of anyone's membership.
Organisers can act
Organisers may warn, suspend, or remove members who breach this code, and may remove content that breaks it. Some clearly explicit or abusive images are removed automatically. These calls are made to keep the community safe, not to police disagreement.
